Book Reviews (Part 4)

Title: Nightlight: The Parody
Author: The Harvard Lampoon
Age Group: YA
Rating: ♥♥
Belle Goose falls in love with the nerdy vampire Edwart Mullen.

In my opinion, (I don't care if you like it or not) this was by far the worst book I have read. It was boring and a very bad parody. I'm not just saying this because I am a fan of Twilight but this was horrible. I loved the movie Vampire Sucks because it was good. This is just really bad material to read. See how I wrote so little for the synopsis? I expected a good parody that was funny but this was just blah.

Title: Sophomore Switch
Author: Abby Mcdonald
Age Group: Teen
Rating: ♥♥♥♥
Tasha and Emily switch lives. Tasha needs to escape from "The Hot Tub Incident" and Emily needs to get away from a  breakup. They've already signed up for classes so Tasha learns from feminists courses and Em gets film.  They contact each other for help on how to fit in, what guys are hot and how to survive.

Abby Mcdonald has written this book very, very well. It has lots of humor and the characters are so real. I loved this book a lot and I hope to read more from her.

Comment and review please! Any book suggestions?

You Know Your Canadian When...

I love these thingys.
They're so funny.

You know your Canadian when...

You drink Homo milk.
Like really? Who cares? We're fine with the term Homo milk. It's milk, whatever.

You've " rolled up the rim to win.''
It's just a term. In Canada we have this coffee shop like Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts called Tim Hortons. They have these cups that you get with your coffee ( like the coffee is in the cup) and you roll up the rim to see what you win.

You've watched Mr. Dressup
It's just a TV show that you watch and it's like a craft show or whatever.

You say "eh" in your sentence.
This is a part of us. I can't deny not doing this because we do. It's like saying:
" Hey, this coffee is amazing, right? "
In our case we just replace the right with an eh?

You spell things differently than the Americans.
Colour= Color
Center= Centre
Favourite= Favorite

You drink pop, not soda.
Should I even really explain this one?

You know that we don't live in igloos or ride polar bears to school.
Wow. That's really stupidest thing I've ever heard. Why would you live in an igloo? We live in normal houses.

You call things by their advertised name.
Tissue= Kleenex
Ice Cream Bar- Klondike Bar
Black and White Cookies- Oreos

Comment if there are any that I've missed and review please!

Teen Book Reviews (Part 3)

I am back with yet another book review! Please comment and review and follow me! I follow back!!

 Title: The Teashop Girls
Author: Laura Schaefer
Age Group: 8-14 (According to Amazon)
Rating: ♥♥♥♥

Thirteen year old Annie loves to drink tea and she is trying to keep her grandmother's tea shop up and alive. As she attempts to pick up more new faces, she deals with some problems. Her friends seem to not be interested in the teashop anymore and she develops a crush on a worker in the tea shop.

This book was very impressive because of it's extraordinary characters and it's lack of sex and drugs. You see, some books out on the YA bookshelves are filled with swearing, sex and drugs. This one just seems innocent. And plus, the cute little ads for tea and recipes in between the chapters just make you love it more.  I love drinking tea and this book makes you all warm and fuzzy inside. I'm definitely looking forward to read more books by her.

Title: The Earth, My Butt And Other Big Round Things
Author: Carolyn Macker

Age Group: 13-15 years old
Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥

Virginia Shreves is an average girl compared to her extraordinary family. Her best friend has moved away and she longs for a boyfriend. As the chapters go on, Virginia struggles to lose weight and deal with her imperfections. Later, she learns her brother has date-raped.

This book is funny but it deals with some very un-funny things. Stuff like, eating disorders, parental pressure and losing weight. Carolyn Macker has written with such an intensity that it seems like the character is right in front of my eyes. I would recommend it to many people, no matter what your size or issue is.

Christmas Advent Calendar

So, I know that Christmas is pretty far away but I love Christmas. I started making my own paper advent calendar simply because I suck at sewing and I don't have the proper materials. Let me just put this out there:
This is not a quick and easy craft. This took me about a week to do because of homework and other side projects and stuff. I finally did finish though so please comment if you like it!!!

1. Just sketch out your plans on a piece of cardstock or bristol board. Shoot, I should've done it on cardstock.
 I didn't have enough room for all the numbers to fit on the tree so I put some  as presents, put some as cards, just extra little tidbits.

2. Make sure everything fits and is ready to go.

3. Cut the design out. See that little black line there? Yeah, I traced the whole thing with Sharpie and I realized what a mistake that was. i had to reorganize everything. So do NOT, I repeat, do NOT trace your design with a marker.

4. Colour yours in. I used an knife ( the X-acto kind or something) to cut out 3 sides of the "door"so it could open.

The finished product!!!!
See the little Christmas cards on the mantel and the stockings? Those were pretty hard to cut out.

On the area where the flap was, I used a little stickie and I wrote what was going to be on the gift. because, this doesn't have pockets, i thought it would be better to have a " Christmas box"where the gifts would be labeled.

Any suggestions? Comments?
